Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
